Rulani Mokwena delighted his MC Alger side are back in contention for a place in the Caf Champions League knockout stage as Mamelodi Sundowns fumbles
Rulani Mokwena’ happiness knows no bounds this weekend.
The MC Alger coach is basking in the sun. He is on cloud nine.
Mokwena’s Algerian side defeated Sudanese giants in Al Hilal 2-1 in their Caf Champions League match in Algeria to open their group D standings wider.
“Allow me to enjoy this victory first! Yes, 24 hours to enjoy this victory,” Mokwena said after the game, as per Pan-Africa Football.
“What (the win) does is it helps us keep things in our own hands. We targeted 10 points and now we still have a chance with one more game to get 10 points.
“Good team [Al-Hilal]. Of course, you see why they have 8 points in this group and why they are in top in that position.
"It’s a tough group. A lot of people don’t understand it’s a very, very difficult group.
"We were unfortunate to lose in Rwanda (the first meeting with Hilal) but we’ve made an agreement not to lose to the same team twice.”
All of ST Eloi Lupopo, Al Hilal, Mamelodi Sundowns and MC Alger have a chance of making it to the knockout stage from this group.
Al Hilal are on top with eight points, MC Alger are second with seven points, Sundowns are third with six while ST Eloi Lupopo are fourth with five.
The ultimate decider will be this weekend as all teams will be playing their last games.
Mokwena’s Alger will travel to South Africa to face his former team Sundowns while Lupopo will battle it out against Al Hilal.
