Ronaldo is finished! Portuguese poll reveals verdict on his conflict with Jorge Jesus
The Portuguese public has delivered a striking verdict on the biggest controversy surrounding the national team.
Details: A Pitagórica poll for TVI/CNN Portugal showed that 42% of respondents believe Jorge Jesus is more in the right in his conflict with Cristiano Ronaldo, while only 14% side with the Portugal captain. The survey was based on 400 valid interviews conducted on October 1 and 2 and has a margin of error of five percentage points.
Another 20% of those questioned said that both Ronaldo and Jesus have some justification for their positions. Ten percent believe neither side is right, another 10% said they do not have enough information to judge the situation, while 3% did not know or declined to answer.
The breakdown by club preference also favored the Portugal coach. Among Benfica supporters, 46% backed Jesus compared with only 7% for Ronaldo. The figures among Porto fans were 49% and 16% respectively, while Sporting supporters were the most favorable toward Cristiano: 34% sided with Jesus and 24% with Ronaldo.
The poll comes amid a turbulent international break for Portugal. Ronaldo remained an unused substitute in the 2-1 Nations League victory over Norway before later leaving the national-team camp following the escalation of his disagreement with Jesus. It is worth noting that UEFA currently credits Cristiano Ronaldo with a world-record 146 goals in 234 appearances for Portugal, making him the record holder in men's international football for both goals and caps.
Reminder: Peace or the end of an era? Ronaldo-Jesus conflict takes an unexpected turn
