Romano reveals new release clause amount in Williams' contract

Speculation surrounding the departure of Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams ended with his contract extension at the club. The details of the deal were unveiled by renowned insider Fabrizio Romano, much to the disappointment of those pursuing the player.
Details: Romano stated that starting next summer, the winger’s release clause will see a significant increase. While it currently stands at €62 million including taxes, next year it will be considerably higher.
Quote: “I wanted to inform you that the new release clause included in Williams' contract is around €100 million from 2026. This is an important detail regarding Williams’ future, as he has signed a new long-term deal with Athletic. This summer, it was €58 million plus taxes—up to €62 million. And next summer, it will rise to €100 million,” Romano is quoted as saying by the Football Transfers website.
Reminder: Earlier, it was reported that Barcelona plan to sign RB Leipzig winger Xavi Simons as an alternative to Williams.
