The potential newcomer is not exactly new.
Details: According to the 3CAT portal, after the failed attempt to sign Nico Williams, Barcelona's coaching staff has shifted their attention to their own academy graduate—Xavi Simons, who is currently playing for RB Leipzig.
Simons' return was discussed even during Xavi's tenure, with the coach repeatedly highlighting the young Dutchman's talent. Now, however, the club's interest has become much more concrete and focused—especially as negotiations for Luis Diaz have stalled.
RB Leipzig signed Simons at the start of this year for €50 million from French side PSG, and during his time in Germany, the club has truly unlocked his potential.
According to sources, the German club's management has set a release clause at €80 million—almost exactly the amount Barcelona had earmarked for Nico Williams.
Last season, Xavi Simons featured in 33 matches, scoring 11 goals and providing 8 assists. He is under contract with the Red Bulls until 2027, and his current market value, according to Transfermarkt, stands at €70 million.
