Plokwane City coach Phuti Mohafe on Kaizer Chiefs' Lebohang Maboe's MOM Award: How was he selected to receive it because we neutralised him
Phuti Mohafe is disputing the Man of the Match award Kaizer Chiefs’ Lebohang Maboe received in their goalless draw against his side, Polokwane City.
Mohafe said it is unfathomable how Maboe was voted the best player at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium when his midfield neutralised him and the entire Chiefs midfield.
“We defended well on Saturday, we didn't concede. In the middle, we neutralised Lebohang Maboe, and we neutralised Thabo Cele. I'm so confused about how Maboe got the Man of the Match. I don't know how he got it because he was nowhere to be seen on the field,” Mohafe told journalists after the game on Saturday night.
“Whenever he got the ball, we were there. We won most of the balls from him. So how can you be a Man of the Match losing the balls? I think we played better, but Chiefs are still a better team. They are in a good form. They are playing well. They were scoring, but they didn't score against us.
“We can pat ourselves on the shoulders and say, ‘guys, you have done well.’
Mohafe noted City's Tlou Nkwe and Simon Ramabu as the players who deserved the award over Chiefs' Maboe.
“Let's go back to who was marking Maboe. We had Tlou Nkwe Tlou on the left side. He deserves the Man of the Match. You have Simon Ramabu on the right side. He gave them problems. He deserves to be the Man of the Match. So why not give them the Man of the Match?” Mohafe continued to wonder how Maboe was received the plaudits on the night.
