Manchester City had to endure a dramatic penalty shootout to keep their League Cup title defence alive.

Details: On October 28, Manchester City hosted Brighton in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup. The two sides produced a thrilling encounter at the Etihad Stadium, finishing level at 2-2 after regulation time. The winner was ultimately decided from the penalty spot, where Enzo Maresca's men prevailed 4-3 to secure their place in the quarter-finals.

Brighton struck first in the 30th minute through Malick Yalcouyé, who converted Georginio Rutter's delivery. However, Manchester City responded just ten minutes later, with Mateo Kovačić finding the net following an assist from Phil Foden to make it 1-1 before half-time.

The visitors regained the lead almost immediately after the restart. In the 47th minute, Rutter scored following a pass from Jaouen Hadjam, putting Brighton back in front. City refused to surrender, and in the 72nd minute, defender Vitor Reis struck the equaliser after being set up by Rayan Cherki.

With the score still tied at 2-2 after 90 minutes, the contest went to penalties. Manchester City proved more clinical from the spot, winning the shootout 4-3 and eliminating Brighton from the competition.

Interestingly, the clubs' previous League Cup meeting in the 2008/09 season also finished 2-2. On that occasion, Brighton emerged victorious after winning the penalty shootout 5-3.
