A controversial goal has sparked a major debate during Manchester City's Carabao Cup clash with Brighton! The visitors took the lead at the Etihad Stadium, but footage circulating online has raised questions about a possible offside that could not be reviewed by VAR.

Details: On October 28, Brighton opened the scoring against Manchester City through Malick Yalcouyé in the 30th minute. Georginio Rutter delivered a dangerous ball across the penalty area, and the midfielder turned it into the net from close range. However, Kalshi FC subsequently shared an image of the incident, claiming the goal should have been disallowed for offside. The referee allowed it to stand, with no video review available.

The controversy is linked to the competition's officiating arrangements. VAR is not being used in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup, meaning referees cannot rely on video technology to overturn disputed decisions. Although supporters have questioned the position of Brighton's attackers, the available image alone does not conclusively establish an offside offence.

City's official match commentary confirmed Yalcouyé's goal and credited Rutter with creating the opportunity. The strike came during an encouraging attacking spell for Brighton, who had already threatened Gerónimo Rulli's goal. Enzo Maresca's side found themselves chasing the game despite starting as favourites on home territory.

It's worth noting that Brighton had already eliminated Manchester United from the competition with a spectacular 3-2 comeback. The Seagulls now have another opportunity to cause an upset against a Manchester club. At the latest verified update, the match was still in progress, so the disputed goal cannot yet be described as the decisive moment of the tie.

Reminder: Disgrace! Manchester United repeat an Old Trafford nightmare unseen for over 50 years.
