Paolo Guerrero Announces His Farewell from Peru’s National Team

As reported by DSports, Peruvian legend Paolo Guerrero has officially revealed when he will step away from international football. The iconic striker confirmed that his final appearance for the national team will be at the end of the current World Cup qualifying campaign, as Peru's chances of reaching the 2026 tournament are nearly gone.
“This is a step for the new generation. Peru needs fresh faces in the national team. I hope they do well — and if not, like any Peruvian, I’ll be there to help push the team forward,” said Guerrero. He also called on the media to support the upcoming talent with constructive criticism and positive encouragement.
Guerrero made his debut on October 9, 2004, against Bolivia in La Paz. Since then, he’s become Peru’s all-time top scorer with 41 goals in 129 matches and played a pivotal role in the team’s historic qualification for the 2018 World Cup in Russia under Ricardo Gareca.
At 41, Paolo Guerrero prepares to bow out with the pride of a true leader. His final match will mark not just a farewell, but the end of an era in Peruvian football.
