Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou: It should not be a single team race to the PSL title as one team should not dominate the Betway Premiership
It cannot be that a single club dominates the PSL without a challenge from other teams.
South Africa’s PSL should have at least three teams challenging for the Betway Premiership title every season.
This is the view of Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou.
Ouaddou’s Pirates leapfrogged Mamelodi Sundowns on the PSL standings after their 2-0 win over AmaZulu last night in a Betway Premiership match.
As much as it’s still to predict on who will be crowned this season’s champions, Pirates have looked the part in terms of being potential champions ahead of Sundowns.
This is the closest point margin the PSL has seen in a long time as b this time of the season in previous campaigns, Sundowns would be more than 10 pints ahead in the title chase.
As it is Pirates are on top with 35 points with Sundowns on the second spot with 32 with both teams having played 15 matches.
“I think it’s good for South African football to have maybe three, four teams in the race for the title,” said Ouaddou after the victory over Usuthu at Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium.
“It brings value for South African football. You cannot have a team who is dominating for decades with 20 points. Even the interest of football you lose the interest.
“I think it’s a good year now that we have maybe three or four teams going to fight for the title.”
