Arsenal have officially announced the signing of Real Sociedad and Spain national team midfielder Mikel Merino on their website.

The 28-year-old midfielder has signed a long-term contract with the "Gunners," though the exact duration has not been specified.

It was previously reported that Merino would sign a contract until 2028, with the transfer fee estimated at around €32 million plus bonuses.

"Merino is a player who will bring us new quality with his experience and versatility. He has played at a high level both at the club and international levels for several seasons. Mikel will significantly strengthen our team with his technical abilities, as well as his strong and positive character and personality.

As we all saw this summer, Mikel is also a winner, having performed strongly at the Euros, helping Spain win the tournament. We are delighted to welcome Mikel and his family to the club and look forward to working with him," commented Mikel Arteta on the signing.

Merino will wear the number 23 jersey and will immediately join his new teammates at the Sobha Realty training center.

The 28-year-old midfielder has been with Real Sociedad since 2018, where he was a key player. With the Spanish national team, he became a Euro 2024 champion.

Notably, Arsenal's head coach previously spoke about the team's needs in the transfer market.
