Official! Schalke pull off deadline coup for Premier League forward
Schalke have landed a genuine deadline day statement: South Korean international Hwang Hee-chan is officially a Royal Blue.
Details: The club announced the move on their official channels: the striker arrives from Wolverhampton Wanderers on loan until June 30, 2027. Florian Plettenberg had reported the late negotiations hours earlier, with the player open to the switch.
For Hwang, 30, it is a return to the country where he made his name. He burst onto the European scene at Red Bull Salzburg with 45 goals in 126 matches, then played for RB Leipzig and Hamburg before joining Wolves, first on loan in 2021 and permanently for €16.7 million a year later. His Premier League record stands at 133 appearances and 24 goals, though last season brought just 2 goals and 2 assists in 26 games as Wolves finished bottom and dropped into the Championship. With his contract running to 2028 and a market value of €6 million, the loan gives both sides a reset: Wolves trim their wage bill after relegation, while Schalke get a proven international forward who played at the World Cup this summer and answers to the nickname The Bull.
It's worth noting that the deal runs until June 2027 rather than the usual single season, giving Schalke an unusually long loan to build their attack around the Korean.
