Here we go! Leverkusen seal a huge late-window move

Bayer Leverkusen have made their move in the final stretch of the transfer window. Guéla Doué is set to leave RC Strasbourg after the clubs agreed terms for the Ivorian fullback.

Details: Fabrizio Romano reports that Leverkusen and Strasbourg have agreed a package worth €37.5 million including add-ons. Doué has accepted the move, received authorisation to travel and is expected to join Bayer 04 as a new defensive option.

The agreement is a major step forward from the situation reported only days earlier. On August 29, Dailysports revealed that Doué and Leverkusen had reached a verbal agreement, but negotiations with Strasbourg were still ongoing. Those discussions have now produced a full deal, according to Romano. The 23-year-old has been one of Strasbourg’s key defenders and has established himself as a regular in Ligue 1. He is also an Ivory Coast international, giving Leverkusen a player with useful experience beyond domestic football. The Bundesliga side are continuing a broad reshaping of their squad, and Doué should offer depth and versatility on the right side of defence. His arrival comes after a difficult opening league weekend for Leverkusen, who suffered a surprise defeat against Elversberg. The club will hope the new signing settles quickly and helps improve a side targeting a return to consistency in Germany and Europe.

It’s worth noting that Doué joined Strasbourg from Rennes in 2024 and was under contract with the French club until 2029. The fee illustrates how highly Leverkusen rate the defender as he prepares for a major step in his career.
