According to available information, the president of the Italian Football Federation, Giovanni Malagò, chose not to sign the necessary documents and has halted the appointment process for the legendary midfielder.
The abrupt decision was driven by Pirlo’s collaboration with the Russian betting company Fonbet. The former midfielder is a global ambassador for the brand, and his participation in a company event in Moscow sparked heavy criticism from Italian politicians and the public alike.
Pirlo’s candidacy was backed by national team technical director Paolo Maldini and Leonardo. However, following the heated controversy, Malagò ultimately refused to give the final green light for the appointment.
