Official! Elche land Atlético's World Cup winner on season-long loan
Elche have added a World Cup winner to their midfield.
Details: Atlético Madrid have officially confirmed an agreement with Elche for the loan of Thomas Lemar. The French midfielder will spend the entire 2026/27 season with the fellow LaLiga club.
The move opens a new chapter for Lemar after a lengthy spell with Atlético. The Frenchman joined the Madrid club in 2018, shortly after becoming a World Cup champion with France, and later that summer added the UEFA Super Cup to his collection of trophies.
Lemar was also an important member of Atlético's squad during the 2020/21 campaign, when Diego Simeone's team won the LaLiga title. Atlético wished the midfielder the best of luck as he begins the next stage of his career with Elche.
The official announcement describes the operation as a loan covering the 2026/27 season, meaning Lemar will now continue his career in Spain while representing another LaLiga club.
It is worth noting that Thomas Lemar has made 186 competitive appearances for Atlético Madrid since joining the club, scoring 10 goals and providing 19 assists.
