Details: German club Wolfsburg have officially announced the departure of 34-year-old Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen. The two parties have reached an agreement to terminate his contract by mutual consent, despite the deal originally being scheduled to run until June 30, 2027. The club's sporting director, Dieter Hecking, explained that Eriksen had requested the termination himself and that Wolfsburg had decided to respect his wishes.
In his farewell statement, Eriksen explained that being close to his family in Denmark is particularly important to him at the moment. The midfielder thanked the club for finding a solution and expressed his gratitude to everyone who had supported him during his time in Wolfsburg.
The German club also thanked the experienced playmaker for his contribution, emphasizing that he had made a lasting impression on his teammates, club employees and supporters despite his relatively short spell with the team.
As for Eriksen's next destination, the situation remains unclear. The Danish midfielder is now a free agent, but neither the player nor Wolfsburg have announced an agreement with another club. Eriksen has also made no official announcement about ending his professional career.
It is worth noting that Eriksen joined Wolfsburg as a free agent in September 2025. According to the German club's official statement, he made 34 appearances for the Wolves across all competitions, scoring three goals and providing ten assists.
