NPFL: Kwara United Fined N9m, Deducted Three Points and Banished to Abeokuta After Crowd Trouble
The Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) has sanctioned Kwara United over the crowd disturbances that followed their rescheduled Matchday 22 fixture against Rivers United in Ilorin.
The league fined the club N9 million and deducted three points as well as three goals from their total for breaching its rules and framework. The NPFL cited failure to provide adequate security, which allowed unauthorised individuals access to restricted areas, and failure to control supporters whose actions reportedly led to the harassment and injury of match officials and Rivers United officials.
In addition to the financial and sporting penalties, Kwara United will play their remaining home matches at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena in Abeokuta. Kwara United have 48 hours to appeal the sanctions.
