NPFL: Katsina United Issues Official Statement Denying False Reports of Barau FC Player Stabbing
Katsina United Football Club has firmly denied and condemned what it described as “false, misleading, and unfounded” reports circulating online that alleged a Barau FC player, Nana Abraham, was stabbed in the neck by a Katsina United supporter during their Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) clash at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium on Sunday.
In an official statement released by the club’s Media Directorate, Katsina United expressed deep disappointment over the “unverified and sensational” publication, which it said was capable of damaging the club’s image and misleading the public about the events that occurred during the 1-1 draw.
“The publication made several false claims, suggesting that supporters invaded the pitch, that the situation was chaotic, and that a player had been slaughtered. These assertions are entirely false and do not reflect what truly transpired,” the statement read.
The publication further criticized the unnamed media outlet for failing to verify the information before publication, calling the report “mischievous and damaging” to the development of football in both Katsina State and Nigeria at large.
“We want to make it categorically clear that the report published is misleading, unrealistic, and entirely baseless. Katsina United remains committed to professionalism, discipline, and fair play both on and off the field,” the club reiterated.
The club also addressed claims involving Barau FC, suggesting that some of their representatives may have amplified the false narrative. Katsina United stated that it would leave the matter to the League Management Body (LMB) to investigate and take appropriate disciplinary action in accordance with league regulations.
