Nothing has been decided yet. French Football Federation denies rumors of Zidane agreement with France national team
The French Football Federation (FFF) has called for patience from the French media, who have already named Zinedine Zidane as Didier Deschamps’ successor after the 2026 World Cup, making it clear that no final decision on the new head coach has been made yet.
Details: In an interview with L'Equipe, French Football Federation president Philippe Diallo stated that the fate of the coaching position remains undecided. He urged everyone not to jump the gun and emphasized that decisions will only be made after the World Cup concludes:
"Let's see in July, things can happen that no one expects." - said Diallo.
According to him, it is important to show respect for the current staff and avoid creating unnecessary pressure ahead of a major tournament.
At the same time, Diallo does not hide his admiration for Zidane and his achievements. However, he considers any discussion of a possible appointment to be premature.
Didier Deschamps will step down as head coach of the France national team in July 2026, concluding a 14-year tenure that included a World Cup victory in 2018, a final appearance in 2022, and a Nations League triumph in 2021.
Reminder: FIFA has updated the national team rankings: find out where France stands.
