New details have emerged in the search for the next head coach of the Italy national team. According to Corriere dello Sport, one of the candidates for the job was Thiago Motta, but the former Juventus boss has turned down the opportunity to lead the national squad.

As reported by the source, representatives from the Italian Football Federation contacted the 43-year-old manager and offered him the vacant position. However, Motta politely declined the offer, prompting the federation to shift its focus to Andrea Pirlo as the main candidate.

It is worth recalling that earlier, FIGC officials also tried to hire Carlo Ancelotti and Josep Guardiola, but both managers declined the approach. Following those setbacks, Pirlo has become the leading contender for the head coach role, with his official appointment expected in the coming days.
