The door back to Anfield appears to be closed for Trent Alexander-Arnold for now.

Details: According to Football Insider, Liverpool have no plans to re-sign Trent Alexander-Arnold despite the defender's increasingly difficult situation at Real Madrid. The 28-year-old is not considered a target for his former club at this moment in time, with the England international instead expected to continue fighting for his place in Madrid.

Alexander-Arnold's lack of playing time has intensified speculation about his future. He was an unused substitute in five of Real Madrid's last seven matches and played only 139 minutes across that run, with all of those minutes coming in two appearances.

  • Rayo Vallecano — 0 minutes
  • Elche — 87 minutes
  • Atlético Madrid — 0 minutes
  • Villarreal — 52 minutes
  • Roma — 0 minutes
  • Sevilla — 0 minutes
  • RB Leipzig — 0 minutes

Football Insider reports that there is currently nothing concrete regarding a return to Liverpool. Alexander-Arnold left his boyhood club for Real Madrid in 2025 and is now in his second season with the Spanish giants, but competition for the right-back position has significantly reduced his role in recent weeks.

It is worth noting that Real Madrid's official statistics currently list Alexander-Arnold with six appearances, 344 minutes played and one assist in all competitions during the 2026/27 season.

Reminder: Not Liverpool! Premier League giant agrees to take Alexander-Arnold from Real Madrid
