Ronaldo confirmed on September 30 that he had decided to leave Portugal's camp following Jorge Jesus' press conference and a conversation with Portuguese Football Federation president Pedro Proença. The 41-year-old promised that he would explain the reasons behind his decision to the Portuguese public in due course.
The Portuguese Football Federation subsequently confirmed the captain's departure, stating that preparations for the upcoming matches would continue with the remaining 24 players. Portugal are due to face Denmark in Copenhagen in the UEFA Nations League on October 1.
