Nigeria unexpectedly failed to secure victory against Equatorial Guinea in the AFCON

On January 14th, the African Nations Cup continued in Côte d'Ivoire. In the first round of Group “A”, Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea faced off.

Yesterday, the continental tournament kicked off with the match between Côte d'Ivoire and Guinea-Bissau (1:0).

In the first half of the game, the Nigerian team failed to capitalize on several opportunities to score, conceding a goal instead. Medzi Iban Salvador, a forward from the Polish team, put Equatorial Guinea in the lead.

The Super Eagles swiftly equalized. Just two minutes later, Napoli's star Victor Osimhen restored parity, assisted by Atalanta's Ademola Lookman.

In the second half, the favored team controlled the game but failed to secure a victory. The final assault also failed to yield the anticipated outcome. The match ended in a 1:1 draw.

Thus, after the first round in the group, Côte d'Ivoire leads, with Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea each earning one point. Guinea-Bissau is yet to score.
