One of the Phoenix Suns’ leading figures, Kevin Durant, might seem far removed from the world of football. Yet, as it turns out, he has forged a very tangible connection with a top European club.

Details: Durant has expanded his partnership with Qatar Sports Investments, the group that owns French powerhouse PSG, by directly investing in the football club. His company, Boardroom, has signed a strategic partnership agreement with PSG, covering a wide range of aspects, but the centerpiece is consulting on a potential launch of a PSG basketball project within NBA Europe.

The idea of a European league under the NBA umbrella has been under discussion for quite some time, and it’s no surprise that Durant would be the face of the Parisians in this venture. He’s set to serve as a key consultant on the arena, infrastructure, and even on training processes.

Recall: The plans to establish a European league within the NBA framework have not been warmly received by EuroLeague officials, who argue there’s little point since Europe already boasts three FIBA basketball competitions and the EuroLeague itself.

However, NBA representatives insist that the league’s aim is not to compete with EuroLeague but to complement it by building a mutually beneficial partnership. The new league is expected to admit teams based on sporting merit—achievements and results on the court.
