Mourinho claims he has turned down the chance to work with a top national team

José Mourinho has worked with many big-name clubs when he was a coach, but by the time he was 61, he had never made the national team. Although the ‘special one’ was close to doing so.

Details: As Mourinho himself admitted, he was twice approached to take over the England national team, but he rejected the offer as he believes he has enough energy to work at club level.

Quote: ‘I have had opportunities in the past to make the national team, but I have always turned them down. I've had two offers from England, but I haven't accepted them. It's not the kind of job that will make me happy. One or two matches a month, travelling to watch players, waiting for tournaments... Right now, I have a lot of energy to spend. Maybe one day when I am old and tired, but not today,’ Mourinho said in a conversation with HT Spor.

Recall: Earlier, the Portuguese national federation made attempts to invite his distinguished compatriot to the post of head coach of the local national team.
