Meyebine-Esso Gnassingbé Steps Down as ASKO Kara President
After a successful four-year term, Meyebine-Esso Gnassingbé has officially stepped down as executive president of ASKO Kara. Elected in December 2020, Gnassingbé’s tenure concluded on December 28, 2024, and he now assumes the honorary president role.
Under his leadership, ASKO Kara experienced unprecedented success, winning four consecutive Togolese league titles, bringing the club’s total to nine. The team also made significant strides in continental competitions, reaching the CAF Confederation Cup group stage and participating in three preliminary rounds of the CAF Champions League.
Off the field, Gnassingbé oversaw remarkable developments, including the creation of a women’s section that excelled in the national championship. Additionally, the club acquired a headquarters, a car park, and land earmarked for a future training center.
Pidabi Bawoubadi, the former vice president and mayor of Kara, now takes over as executive chairman. Backed by a renewed management team, Bawoubadi aims to continue the club’s dominance in Togolese football and enhance its presence on the African stage.
