Manqoba Mngqithi on Golden Arrows' 1-0 win over Stellenbosch FC in the Nedbank Cup: It was good win even though we were not at our best level
Manqoba Mngqithi is pleased his Golden Arrows side made to it to the quarterfinals of the Nedbank Cup after Stellenbosch FC failed to capitalise on their sluggish midfield last night.
Arrows beat Stellies 1-0 last night at King Zwelithini Stadium via a Angelo Van Rooi goal in the second half to send the Kwa-Zulu Natal side into the Nedbank Cup quarterfinals.
The Cape Winelands club were not wise enough to exploit Arrows’ midfield weaknesses according o the home side coach, Manqoba Mngqithi.
"We were a little bit timid in the midfield today. Two of my midfielders were not at the level we expected and that made us struggle with our build-ups. Fortunately, Stellenbosch did not punish us from those set pieces in the first half. It was not a very good start from us, but we came back stronger in the second half," Mngqithi said after the game.
Mngqithi though was not as entirely pleased with the victory as a legitimate penalty call for Stellenbosch was not given by the match referee.
“I would appreciate to win a match without such issues, because I've been talking about this all along," he said.
“The speed of the game is fast so you need technology to make decisions. The speed of the game will always be faster than the referees, and sometimes the referees are forced to make conclusions, but when you have a second chance to look at it, you will be able to see exactly what happened.”
