Manchester City vs Arsenal Predicted line-ups and latest news - September 22, 2024

The central fixture of Matchday Five, and perhaps the first half of the season, in the English Premier League will be a showdown between the reigning champions and the runners-up of England. Manchester City will host Arsenal.
Both teams have started the new season confidently and, ahead of the match, occupy positions identical to where they finished last season.
Manchester City is yet to drop any points in the new Premier League season, boasting victories over Chelsea (2-0), Ipswich (4-1), West Ham (3-1), and Brentford (2-1). Arsenal, however, stumbled once, dropping points in a draw against Brighton (1-1), but comfortably overcame Wolves (2-0), Aston Villa (2-0), and Tottenham (1-0).
Both sides also played their first UEFA Champions League matches, each against Italian opposition, and both ended in goalless draws. Manchester City hosted Inter, while Arsenal traveled to face Atalanta.
Heading into this encounter, both teams are dealing with injuries, although Arsenal has been hit harder. For City, Nathan Aké and Oscar Bobb are ruled out, while Kevin De Bruyne remains a doubt. Arsenal will be without Mikel Merino, Martin Ødegaard, Kieran Tierney, Takehiro Tomiyasu, and Oleksandr Zinchenko.
Ahead of the match, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola commented on De Bruyne's potential involvement, noting that the player is feeling better and may take the field.
"Today, he feels a little better. Tomorrow, we have a training session, and we'll see. He might be involved."
Meanwhile, Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta made it clear that his side is traveling to Manchester with one goal: victory.
"Of course, we will prepare to try and win.
To do that, we will have to perform much better than we did against Atalanta. There are certain things we did exceptionally well tonight [against Atalanta], and we’ll need to do them again. Because we all know we need to play better to beat them. We’re going there to win."
A victory today would allow either team to claim the top spot in the league standings. Manchester City will undoubtedly fight for another three points this season, while Arsenal will aim to overtake their rivals.
