Manchester City issue statement on racist abuse directed at two of their players
Manchester City played out a high-scoring 3:3 draw with Everton, but during the match an unpleasant incident occurred involving racism.
Details: During the game, Manchester City winger Antoine Semenyo was subjected to racist abuse, prompting a response from the club.
Quote: Manchester City strongly condemns the racist abuse directed at Antoine Semenyo during yesterday’s match. We welcome the swift action taken by Everton and the police to identify the individual responsible.
We are also extremely disappointed that last night Marc Guehi was the target of a number of vile racist posts on social media.
We will continue to offer our full support to both Antoine and Marc and will never tolerate discrimination of any kind in our sport, the statement reads.
Reminder: Manchester City’s management has reached an agreement with the team’s 25-year-old attacking midfielder over a new contract.
