Manchester City is closely monitoring a talented Argentine midfielder

Manchester City is closely monitoring the performances of the talented Argentine defensive midfielder Alan Varela from Porto.

According to Maisfutebol, City scouts have been present at several recent matches of the Dragons, observing the Argentine's gameplay and making notes. However, the Manchester club has not yet initiated negotiations with Porto and is merely assessing the player's profile.

It is reported that Varela's release clause, stipulated in the agreement with Porto, amounts to €70 million. The 21-year-old Varela is under contract with Porto until June 2028.

The midfielder moved to Portugal last summer from Boca Juniors for €8 million and immediately established himself as a key player in his new team. Varela has made 30 appearances for the Dragons, scoring 2 goals and providing 2 assists.

Earlier reports indicated that Manchester City is also keeping an eye on a prodigy from another Portuguese club, Benfica.
