Manchester City has initiated legal proceedings against the Premier League. What is happening?
Manchester City has initiated legal proceedings against the English Premier League for alleged discrimination against the club, reports The Times.
The Manchester club seeks to overturn the Associated Party Transactions (APT) rule, which they believe to be unlawful. If successful, this would allow City and other wealthy Premier League clubs to secure sponsorship deals without independent evaluation. The dispute will be resolved after a two-week private arbitration hearing, starting on Monday.
It is also noted that this move by Manchester City has sparked a civil war among the Premier League clubs.
Recall that in February of last year, Manchester City was suspected of violating 115 financial fair play rules by the Premier League, with all infractions recorded between 2009 and 2018. The club's management denies all accusations and is still awaiting the appointment of a date for the first hearing.
During the period of the allegations from 2009 to 2018, Manchester City won the league title four times, claimed the FA Cup twice, secured the League Cup four times, and won the Community Shield three times.
