Manchester City face record points deduction as timeline set for ruling on 115 financial breaches
Manchester City could face severe sanctions in the case involving alleged breaches of the English Premier League’s financial rules. According to Football Insider, a decision on the club’s appeal is expected in February or March 2027 — well before the end of the season.
According to the source, the minimum expected punishment if the appeal fails would be a record points deduction. For comparison, Everton were docked six points after their proceedings, while Nottingham Forest lost four for financial rule breaches. The report also claims that Manchester City’s alleged overstatement of profits exceeded £830 million, which could influence the scale of any potential sanctions.
Other potential measures include transfer restrictions, the stripping of titles and even expulsion from the Premier League.
Sports lawyer James Severn believes Manchester City will find it difficult to have the charges overturned. According to him, the club would need to prove that the commission made substantial factual errors or misinterpreted the documents and evidence.

Manchester City were previously charged with 115 breaches of the financial regulations. The club categorically denies any wrongdoing and insists it has compelling evidence to support its case. If the appeal is upheld, the team will avoid punishment. Otherwise, it could face further legal proceedings and severe sanctions.
