One of Manchester City's brightest stars is back at the center of major transfer speculation.

Details: According to transfer insider Ekrem Konur, Chelsea have been long-time admirers of Rayan Cherki, with their interest dating back to before the Frenchman joined Manchester City. The London club previously tried to sign him from Lyon, but the move collapsed after the French side pushed for Andrey Santos to be included in a swap deal. Chelsea rejected that condition.

Cherki eventually moved to Manchester City and remains tied to the Etihad until the summer of 2030. However, Chelsea's interest could reportedly become relevant again if the consequences of City's financial-rule case create conditions in which leading players become available on the transfer market. Manchester City have appealed the independent commission's decision.

The Blues would not be alone in the race. Konur also names Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid among the clubs monitoring the France international, meaning any potential battle for Cherki could involve several of Europe's biggest teams.

It is worth noting that Cherki has made eight appearances for Manchester City in all competitions this season, scoring four goals and providing two assists. His latest listed Transfermarkt valuation stands at €90 million.
