Mamelodi Sundowns' Miguel Cardoso on defeat to Al Hilal: It is not over yet for us in the Caf Champions League
Miguel Cardoso does not believe that Mamelodi Sundowns 2-1 loss to Al Hilal last night is an indication that their season is headed for disaster.
Sundowns’ loss in Kigali against Al Hilal saw them lose the top spot for the second one as Hilal sent shockwaves the whole continent by defeating the former Caf Champions League champions.
Actually, after the 2-2 draw in South Africa between the two sides, the Al Hilal coach Laurintiu Reghecampf did say they will make sure they win the home tie.
And they did.
This defeat comes at a time when Cardoso has been under so much pressure at the Chloorkop side amid speculation that former coach, Pitso Mosimane, is to be appointed.
"As I said last year, when I arrived in the club last year, we were in a difficult situation,” said Cardoso after the game.
“We played two, the first match home, we won and we lost away. I feel the fourth match, we had five points exactly like now.
“Obviously, there’s still a match to play and we will see what is going to happen. But for sure, it’s tight, five points is not enough.
“We need to think that next game is very important, probably not decisive depending on the result. But I think this group will be decided in the last match.”
That last match will be against MC Alger on the 13th of February at home as now Sundowns are second of Group C with five points.
Their next opponents in the coming weekend, ST Eloi Lupopo are third with four points and a game to play this weekend against MC Alger.
The outcome of that tie in Algeria will determine if Sundowns can find themselves in a precarious situation or not going into the last game.
