Major loss for Sundowns. Former club president Angelo Tsichlas passes away

Angelo Tsichlas died in a car accident.

Details: It is believed that the tragic accident occurred on Solomon Mahlangu Drive in Pretoria.

Tsichlas became co-owner of Sundowns in 1988, acquiring the rights to the team from Daniella Mahobe and running the club until 2003. That year, Patrice Motsepe purchased a 51% stake in the club, and later Angelo sold his remaining shares, making Motsepe the sole owner of the team.

Patrice Motsepe has already expressed his condolences on this tremendous loss for South African football:

"I am deeply saddened by the passing of Angelo Tsichlas, who was an outstanding football administrator and a close friend. My heartfelt condolences to Natasha and the Tsichlas family.

Angelo, Natasha, and the Tsichlas family will always hold a special place in my heart and in the hearts of the Motsepe family and the Mamelodi Sundowns family. We will all support and comfort the Tsichlas family during this painful and difficult time. Angelo and Natasha, together with the Krok family, and before them Zola Mahobe, made an enormous contribution to the development and growth of Mamelodi Sundowns. We are all immensely grateful to them for laying the foundation for the current success of Mamelodi Sundowns. Angelo Tsichlas will forever remain in our hearts and minds. May Angelo Tsichlas’s soul rest in peace." Motsepe said.
