Luis Suárez is set to leave Inter Miami at the end of the 2025 season, according to AS, casting uncertainty over both the MLS club’s plans and Lionel Messi’s immediate circle. At 38, the Uruguayan striker has reportedly chosen not to renew his designated player contract, largely due to ongoing knee problems that have hindered his performance.

Despite those setbacks, Suárez has been instrumental for Inter Miami. With 34 goals, he ranks as the second-highest scorer in the club’s history, behind only Messi. His presence often filled the void when the Argentine captain was unavailable, and his departure frees up one of the team’s most expensive salary slots—opening the door for financial restructuring.

Still, his exit from Major League Soccer doesn’t mean he’s hanging up his boots just yet. In recent interviews, Suárez acknowledged the toll on his body but also hinted at one final push to win an elusive MLS title. “My body speaks… and it tells me I need rest,” he said, while leaving the door open for one more challenge.

Among the scenarios on the table is a return to Uruguay’s national team to play the last two South American World Cup qualifiers. As Inter Miami prepares for a major transition, the league and Messi must prepare to lose a key figure on and off the pitch.
