Loyalty! Harvey Barnes refused to join Scotland for the World Cup, choosing to fight for a place in the England squad
Barnes believes in himself.
Details: Scotland national team head coach Steve Clarke has revealed that 28-year-old Newcastle winger Harvey Barnes has officially declined his invitation to join Scotland's squad for the 2026 World Cup.
Clarke explained that Barnes justified his decision by saying he wants to try to break into the England squad and still make it to the World Cup.
Harvey Barnes was born in Burnley in 1997, but has yet to play an official match for England, which means he is still eligible to switch his football nationality.
This season, Barnes has made 39 appearances for Newcastle, scoring 12 goals and providing 2 assists. He is under contract with Newcastle until 2028, and his market value is estimated by Transfermarkt at €32 million.
