Liverpool's new sporting director revealed! The Reds close in on a familiar face
Liverpool are closing in on a major appointment as the club prepares to finalize its search for a new sporting director.
Details: According to renowned insider David Ornstein, Julian Ward is expected to become Liverpool's new sporting director. The 45-year-old Englishman has emerged as the club's preferred candidate to succeed Richard Hughes and take charge of the Merseyside giants' sporting operations.
The appointment process, led by Liverpool's ownership, has not yet been officially completed. However, negotiations are now approaching their conclusion, with Ward emerging as the leading candidate for the position.
If appointed, the English executive will become the most senior sporting figure at Anfield, assuming responsibility for the club's football operations following Hughes' departure.
Ward is already familiar with Liverpool's management structure. He previously served as the club's sporting director during the 2022/23 season, having succeeded Michael Edwards, before leaving the position in the summer of 2023.
It is worth noting that Ward returned to Fenway Sports Group in June 2024 as technical director, taking on responsibilities across the ownership group's football operations. His potential appointment would therefore mark a return to a role he previously held at Liverpool.
