Lionel Mpasi puts in a historic performance at the 2026 World Cup
5 saves in 20 minutes against Colombia
Despite the DR Congo’s 1–0 defeat to Colombia this Wednesday 24 June, the Leopards’ goalkeeper made history on the world stage.
Lionel Mpasi put in an exceptional performance, making five saves during the first twenty minutes of the match between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Colombia on the second day of the group stage of the 2026 World Cup. It was a feat not seen on the world stage for nearly three decades.
Lionel Mpasi thus becomes the first goalkeeper to achieve such a feat at the World Cup since Jamaica’s Warren Barrett in 1998 against Argentina.
