Lionel Messi could miss the 2026 World Cup. What will his decision depend on?
Lionel Messi is preparing for the new MLS season, and this summer he could feature at the 2026 World Cup, although his participation is far from certain.
Details: According to The Touchline, the Argentine icon may skip the tournament with his national team. Everything will depend on his physical condition. If Messi feels even one percent short of full fitness, he will not play.
The Inter Miami forward believes the overall level of MLS is no longer sufficiently high or competitive, and therefore wants to compensate by being in absolute peak physical condition.
It is also worth noting that we recently reported that Lionel Messi suffered a left thigh injury. He is gradually working his way back to full fitness with the team.
Reminder: Newell’s Old Boys vice president Juan Manuel Medina confirmed that the club are already working on a move to bring Lionel Messi back.
