Details: Newell's Old Boys vice-president Juan Manuel Medina has confirmed that the club is already working on a transfer for Lionel Messi. The legendary Argentine's move is planned for January 2027, once Leo's current commitments end.
"We're working to have Leo play for Newell's in the first half of 2027, but that's all we can say for now," Medina stated.
According to him, Messi's return is not just a football transfer, but a project of national significance that should unite the interests of the city of Rosario, the province, and all of Argentine football.
He also notes that the club's management understands the magnitude of the task. For Lionel to don the red-and-black shirt again, Newell's must meet the highest standards.
"Everything depends on what we can offer in terms of infrastructure and a competitive sporting project," added the vice-president. The idea has already been officially presented to Messi's entourage, and both sides are in contact.
Lionel Messi began his journey at the Newell's Old Boys academy in Rosario before moving to Barcelona.
