Former England manager Gareth Southgate has said he has no intention of returning to coaching in the foreseeable future.

Details: The 56-year-old admitted that after many years of working under immense pressure and responsibility, he had almost completely stopped enjoying the game.

“I couldn’t even enjoy the victories for more than a few minutes,” the coach revealed, describing the incredible level of stress and constant psychological pressure that accompanied every match at the helm of the national team.

Since stepping down in the summer of 2024, the English coach has almost completely distanced himself from the football world: he barely watches broadcasts and is enjoying a quieter life without the regular media battles and pressure from the stands.

“I’ve loved the last 18 months of my life,” the coach concluded, making it clear that he is completely comfortable taking a break away from the stadiums.

It is worth noting that Gareth Southgate managed England for eight years, taking charge of the team in the autumn of 2016. Under his leadership, the side produced the most consistent results in its modern history: reaching the 2018 World Cup semi-finals, winning bronze medals in the UEFA Nations League, and advancing to the European Championship final twice in a row — in 2021 and 2024.
