Léonel Ateba Stars at Simba SC, Targets AFCON 2025 Call-Up with Cameroon
Since coming from USM Alger at the beginning of the season, Leonel Ateba has swiftly gained the affection of Simba SC supporters. The forward from Cameroon has been playing at his best, putting on strong local and continental displays.
Ateba has three goals and one assist in the CAF Confederation Cup, while in the Tanzanian league, he has eight goals and two assists in 13 matches, with 11 starts. His contributions have made him a key player in Simba’s quest for their first-ever African title.
Having reached the CAF Confederation Cup semi-finals with USM Alger last season, Ateba’s experience will be crucial as the knockout rounds approach. The striker also hopes his form will earn him a call-up to Cameroon’s squad for AFCON 2025, set for December 2025 – January 2026 in Morocco.
Ateba was part of Rigobert Song’s squad for AFCON 2023 but didn’t play. He remains focused on improving his statistics at Simba, believing strong performances could secure his return to the Indomitable Lions.
