The recent clash in the 33rd round of La Liga between Atlético Madrid and Athletic Bilbao at the "Metropolitano" stadium was marred by a racist scandal. During the first half, one of the key figures of the visiting team, Nico Williams, was subjected to derogatory remarks.

Such conduct from fans compelled officials to halt the match at the end of the second half, with anti-racism messages resonating across the stadium. The chief referee, Martinez Munuera, duly documented this incident:

"Approximately in the 36th minute of the match, as the game was set to resume with a corner kick in favor of Athletic Bilbao, the sound of an ape imitation, 'Ooh-ooh-ooh,' emanated from the southern stands. This was simultaneously heard by assistant referee number 1, who represents Club Athletic Bilbao, and Nicolas Williams."

The response from La Liga regarding the behavior of Atlético Madrid's fans has now come to light. In their social media channels, the league's leadership issued a statement indicating that information regarding this incident will be forwarded to the prosecutor's office.

"La Liga will condemn, before the authorized prosecutor for hate crimes in Madrid on Monday, the racist chants directed towards Nico Williams at the 'Metropolitano' stadium yesterday."

This marks not the first racist scandal in Spain, nor the first time La Liga has referred such matters to the prosecutor's office. Despite this, fans persist in crossing the line of acceptability, subjecting footballers to continued insults.
