In the 33rd round of La Liga, Atlético Madrid faced Athletic Bilbao away. This match held immense tournament significance for both teams as they vie for the fourth spot, the last in the Champions League zone.

The hosts secured a 3-1 victory, although the score was level at halftime. However, this match will be remembered not only for the excellent performance of the teams but also for another racist scandal.

Throughout the first half, Atlético Madrid fans insulted one of Athletic Bilbao's leaders, Nico Williams, because of his skin color. The actions of the fans forced officials to suspend the match at the end of the first half, and anti-racist messages began to be broadcast over the Metropolitano stadium.

Immediately after this, Gorka Guruzeta delivered an excellent pass to Williams, who managed to equalize the score in the match. Celebrating his goal, the midfielder ran towards the opposing stands, pointing to the color of his skin in response to the insults he endured at the start of the game.

After the match, the player himself commented on the situation:

"I went off the field and heard monkey sounds. It was a few people. These stupid people are everywhere. I hope the situation will gradually change.

I celebrated the goal out of anger. It's abnormal to be insulted because of your skin color."

It is worth reminding that racist scandals are escalating in Spain, and recently, many players from various clubs have become victims of insults. La Liga is taking measures to address this situation, but they are not currently effective. The reaction of officials is currently unknown, but undoubtedly, stricter control over fans will need to be enforced at the Metropolitano and beyond.
