Australian cyclist Jay Vine experienced a truly unique incident during the final stage of the Tour Down Under, the opening race of the 2026 World Tour season.

On one of the fast sections, roughly 96 kilometers from the finish, he was knocked down by two kangaroos. Despite the crash, Vine managed to get back up, change bikes twice, and rejoin the peloton, ultimately going on to win the stage.

The crash did not go without consequences: three riders—Menno Huising, Lucas Stevenson, and Alberto Dainese—were forced to abandon the race, and one of the kangaroos was also injured.

Everyone asks me what the most dangerous thing in Australia is, and I always say: kangaroos. They wait on the roadside, and the moment you can't dodge them, they jump out in front of you. Today proved it,

Vine joked after the race.
