Jürgen Klopp's assistant, Pep Lijnders, has been shortlisted as a contender for the head coach position at Ajax, as reported by Fabrizio Romano.

Negotiations with Ajax representatives have taken place, and now the coach awaits the final decision of the Dutch club. Lijnders will depart Liverpool at the end of the season along with Klopp, which Ajax sees as an opportunity to lure the coach.

Lijnders' only experience as a head coach was during the 2017/2018 season at NEC Nijmegen, where he failed to promote the team to the Eredivisie. It's worth noting that since October of last year, Ajax has been led by John van 't Schip; however, he is likely to leave the club at the end of the season.

In related news, former Liverpool and England national team defender Glen Johnson urged the Merseyside club's leadership to consider appointing Gareth Southgate as head coach at the end of the season.
