The coaching situation for Morocco's national team has taken an unexpected twist.

Details: According to Foot Mercato, the Morocco national team was on the verge of appointing the highly decorated Argentine Jorge Sampaoli. Both parties had already reached a verbal agreement, and the deal seemed all but done. However, negotiations completely collapsed at the last moment.

Despite all contract terms being agreed, Sampaoli will not be stepping into the shoes of the departed Walid Regragui. Instead, the job of rescuing the squad and leading the team to new heights will fall to Mohamed Ouahbi. He will officially replace Regragui as head coach of the Moroccan national team.

Ouahbi, who previously enjoyed success with Morocco's U-20 side, is intimately familiar with the federation's inner workings and the potential of the country's young talents. This proved decisive when the federation opted for an internal candidate after the Sampaoli deal fell through.

Reminder: Former Morocco coach Walid Regragui is in talks with Premier League and La Liga clubs.
