Joey Barton embroiled in another scandal: fans accuse him of racism
Former Manchester City and Newcastle midfielder Joey Barton has once again found himself at the center of controversy, Daily Mail reports. His recent post on the social media platform X sparked outrage among fans, with many accusing him of racism.
Barton commented on a video showing a Black man and a white woman sitting on an African beach, writing, "Patrice Evra will do anything to stay relevant." The remark angered fans, who deemed it racist and questioned why Barton dragged former Manchester United defender Patrice Evra into the situation.
"Hahaha good one Joey! Because every black man with glasses looks like Patrice Evra to you! Proper banter that! Really funny," one user responded sarcastically.
Barton is no stranger to controversy, both on and off the pitch. Recently, he faced backlash for insulting former England women’s player and current TV pundit Eni Aluko.
Interestingly, despite his history of incendiary remarks, Barton has expressed support for the LGBTQ+ community, voicing hope for a future with less discrimination in football and more openly gay players.
