However, another historic event occurred during this game. According to Opta, Colombian midfielder James Rodríguez provided an assist, marking his sixth of the tournament. This achievement breaks Lionel Messi's record for the most assists in a single Copa America tournament. The Argentine forward had set the previous record with five assists in 2021, while James now has six.
Colombia will face Argentina in the Copa America final. The match will take place in the early hours of Monday, July 15, starting at 2:00 AM Central European Time.
Additionally, Messi continues his streak of scoring in six consecutive tournaments. He scored his first Copa America goal in 2007. This goal against Canada was Messi's 109th for the national team, for which he has played since August 2005.
