Ivory Coast’s run comes to an end at WAFCON 2026

The Elephants were beaten by Algeria in the quarter-finals on Saturday 8 August.

The Ivorian women’s national team’s campaign has come to an end at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, which is being held in Morocco. After an impressive run in the group stage, the Elephants were knocked out of the tournament by Algeria in the quarter-finals.

Ivory Coast had, however, started the match in a strong position to qualify. The Ivorian women were leading at half-time. Konan Ines opened the scoring for Ivory Coast in the 30th minute, making it 1–0.

However, Nsire Ouedraogo’s sending-off proved costly for the Ivorian side. The striker was shown a red card in the 42nd minute following a foul on the Algerian goalkeeper. This turned everything on its head after the break.

Ines Khiri equalised for Algeria in the 58th minute, making it 1–1, before Amira Ould Braham secured victory for the Algerians in the 64th minute, 2–1. Ivory Coast are thus out of the competition.

The Elephants will now have to defend their play-off spot on 13 August for the World Cup.
